WHAT ARE SOCIAL ENGINEERING FRAUDS AND THEIR FORMS?
Cyber Security - General Awareness - Social Engineering Frauds (WEEK 4)
MOST IMPORTANT POINTS TO KNOW
  • Baiting : As the name suggests, they lure users into a trap that steals their personal information or inflicts their systems with malware.
  • Pretexting : Pretexting attacks establish a false sense of trust with a targeted victim. This requires threat actors to establish a credible story that does not make victims suspicious of any foul play. A pretext is a made-up scenario developed by threat actors for the purpose of stealing a victim’s personal data.
  • Phishing : Phishing is a cyber attack that uses disguised email as a weapon. The goal is to trick the email recipient into believing that the message is something they want or need. A request from their bank, for instance, or a note from someone in their company and to click a link or download an attachment. The link translates to a melicious site.
  • Vishing : Vishing is a cyber crime that uses the phone to steal personal confidential information from victims. Often referred to as voice phishing, cyber criminals use savvy social engineering tactics to convince victims to act, giving up private information.
  • Piggybacking : Piggybacking, similar to tailgating, refers to when a person tags along with another person who is authorized to gain entry into a restricted area, or pass a certain checkpoint. It can be either electronic or physical.
